Rainy Lake Gazette
The Rainy Lake Gazette, a newspaper located in International Falls, Minnesota, has quickly become a staple in the community since its inception. Launched by CherryRoad Media Inc. in July 2021, the Gazette filled a void in local news coverage left by the closure of a previous publication. The decision to start a new paper was inspired by the strong belief in the importance of community newspapers, a belief shared by the Gazette's staff and its readers alike.
As the newest addition to CherryRoad Media's portfolio, the Rainy Lake Gazette operates out of an office at 203 3rd Street in International Falls, under the leadership of News Editor Laurel Beager and Sr. Office Manager Kami Kostiuk. Despite operating in an increasingly digital world, the Gazette has shown that print newspapers still hold significant value, particularly in small communities. In addition to the print newspaper, a new website was developed to allow readers to interact with news and advertisers, further integrating the paper into the digital fabric of the community.
The launch and successful operation of the Rainy Lake Gazette serve as a reminder of the essential role community newspapers play in our society. As CEO of CherryRoad Media, Jeremy Gulban, noted, this initiative should inspire other communities to appreciate and support their local newspapers. With exciting new initiatives on the horizon, the Rainy Lake Gazette is not only preserving the legacy of community journalism but also helping to shape its future.
