Backus Community Center is a historic building located in International Falls, Minnesota. It was built in 1936 as a high school and later converted into a community center in 2002 by the non-profit organization Citizens for Backus/AB1. The center offers various programs and services for residents of all ages, such as arts, culture, recreation, wellness, and life-long learning.
One of the main features of the center is the Community Café, which serves free, hot, nutritious meals every Tuesday and Thursday night to anyone who needs them. The café aims to reduce hunger and build a stronger community in the area. The center also hosts a child care center called Rainy River Rugrats, which serves children from 6 weeks to 6 years old with a state-accredited curriculum. The center also has a grand auditorium that can accommodate up to 1,200 people. The auditorium is used for various events and performances, such as concerts, musicals, plays, talent shows, and special occasions.
